SIR ARTHUR C. CLARKE (1917-2008) wrote the novel and co-authored the screenplay for 2001: A Space Odyssey. He has been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, and he is the only science-fiction writer to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. His fiction and nonfiction have sold more than one hundred million copies in print worldwide.

We are so young a species with so much imagination. He loved human beings.

读上个世纪的科幻小说，有趣之处在于可以凭借现代科学成果验证其科与幻的分界。但无论是否含有被淘汰的假说，Arthur的小说敢于在当时科技的基础上做设想，这是需要丰富的想象力和一定程度科研能力的。他的天马行空鼓励读者主动地辩证地思考人与物与太空的未来，并展现出他对自然科学广泛而深切的热爱。我喜欢他的故事，却也遗憾地发现他的世界里女性的物化、边缘化。哪怕是想象力丰富如他，也忽视了女性主宰命运的可能性。科学家、宇航员，鲜有女性的踪影，也因此承载他们的飞船被指代为“she/her”，是“he”的所有物。以前的我会沮丧，但现在我明白，“she”的力量如一条自然科学的公理，一直存在，社会发展的程度决定了其理解程度。不必苛求已经入土的先人重视女性力量，正如不必质疑牛顿为什么没有预测到黑洞的存在一样。

断断续续读完，倒没特别惊艳的。不过记得开头一个故事，外星人把我们当鱼钓，原来我们是在鱼塘里。
