约瑟夫•康拉德（1857-1924），英国作家，1857年生于波兰，有二十余年的海上生涯，曾航行世界各地，积累了丰富的海上生活经验。康拉德最擅长写海洋冒险小说，有“海洋小说大师”之称。1886年加入英国籍。一共写了13部长篇小说、28篇短篇小说和2篇回忆录，代表作有《水仙号上的黑水手》《吉姆爷》《诺斯特罗莫》《间谍》《黑暗的心》（后来被改编成电影《现代启示录》）等。

Powerful and nothing short of disturbing. The amount of effort placed into descriptions of scenic beauty makes everything all the more unsettling.

黑暗之心，可与列斯科夫《着魔的流浪人》同读，都是口述的叙事风格，也可比较俄罗斯与英国的imperialism。Impenetrable darkness, “Come and find out”.

难以相信康拉德是一个非母语写作者，这个语言密度和强度简直像一座密不透风的墙，可惜的是我先看了《现代启示录》，对于Kurt的呈现报了很大期望，但是小说和电影的结构其实是不同的。不过无论如何，黑暗之心仍旧是英语文学中最好的小说之一，给我很大的启发
