Together, Hafez, a giant of world literature; Jahan Malek Khatun, an eloquent princess; and Obayd-e Zakani, a dissolute satirist, represent one of the most remarkable literary flowerings of any era. Hafez takes the Sufi experience to be one that is embracing the world but no rejecting it. He is questioning the very foundation of Islam yet still holding himself as a believer - he found his faith through the loss of self, mystical love, and appreciating every beauty of the worldly experience. A good read when the spring is in the air.
