当年为借这本书哟，跑遍学校各个图书分馆，愣头青一样找到一个英文教授，原来书在他研究室里，他自己都不知道有这书。还记得在他门口询问，他很不好意思地问我rouge这个词是什么意思，我也是能扯，告诉他是秧歌，一种中国舞蹈😓😓😓没脸见人了，后来查了字典发现是胭脂的意思💔我当时误以为这本是秧歌，后来发现是怨女，其实就是长篇版金锁记。这是张用英文重写的，但看完后我挺失望的，小说力度被稀释了，还有她被吹上天的英文也并没有期望的那么动人。
张的英文真是好！看到一些中国人骂人的话用英语表达出来很好笑。。。读到后来觉得比起外国人的翻译，她的英文反而表达不出她的风格了。
why change the title from pink tears to the rouge of the north? still affective in terms of the descriptions of Yindi's thoughts flow. P.S. my copy has several marks from its previous owner, showing his/her struggle to understand the subtlety of Yindi's twisted psyche...

基本直译，没有明显添减。和《怨女》的差别比The Golden Cangue和《金锁记》的差别要大。英文的张爱玲失去了她中文里的神韵。
