以薛绍徽和陈寿鹏，以及二人代表的福建贤媛文化与福建船政学堂的结合为中心展开讨论晚晴女文人与时代风潮的互动关系。书还是挺好读的。只是对最后的 conclusion 感觉有点太发散了。像薛绍徽和陈寿鹏这样的文人，势必带有两种特性的，因此也就显然没有后来者更具革命性的吧。
中规中矩，但是作者有时会把薛的思想推及到倾向维新的女性整体，不是太严谨。
以侯官才女薛绍徽为线索，重新书写戊戌变法史，重新评估戊戌变法的影响和女性维新派在其中的作用，集钱南秀十几年研究之大成。
