本书的核心是城市创造了社会和生活，这很显然是反马克思的，和英美的主流也不见融。零零年之后英美突然对六十年代城市动荡下的法国知识圈感兴趣了，一个原因是英美本身的社会科学实证主义气质的城市研究缺乏理论和批判性，这确实是不争的事实；二个是英美本身的批判思路被后殖民和文化研究带去另一个方向了，所以迫切需要一个理论化框架能够就城市谈城市，大卫哈维虽然占据了这个生态位，但是他还是年轻了一代，他的主要批判集中在七十年代之后的新自由主义容易碰到政治问题，这时候Lefebvre显然就是一个非常好的选择了。但是我觉得Lefebvre的原创性被高估了，他的理论在马克思主义的框架里面没有阿尔杜塞那么有原创性，放在整个社会理论框架里也远没有布尔迪厄那么自洽，但他的历史地位还要等几十年看影响了我们这一代的谁

某种程度上比The Production of Space精彩。放在1960/70年代，提出了the urban的概念，于是有了Castells的The Urban Question。列对城市是有美好期待的，期待在于The Production of Space后面提出的differential space。The urban在当时的他看来是一个尚无法定义的过程，可能通向一个理想世界。城市孕育多元选择，有压迫，有反抗，充满可能。

Totality and centrality; fragmentation, separation, and compartmentation. Urban phenomena are full of complexity, paradox, and opposing forces. Difficult book. Deserve (many?) revisit.
