读的17版，学美国史目前最佳的向导性和框架性的书是这本（中英文都包括 ），SAT2和APUSH公认的最佳书目（前提是备考时间充裕），书中历史观点非常扎实（细部会有学术性的再批评），别看是教科书，里面有相当的内容中文都未曾引入翻译介绍，维基中文也多半没有。本书配图（地理配图和人物）尤其丰富——这对初学者理解历史因果颇为重要，比那些只讲文本的教科书强很多，大大有助于建构历史想象。
一千页美国史终于看完了：文字优美叙事【相当】有趣内容充实安排清晰；应该算是如今的主流史观而不忽略对其他观点的提及（每一章Varying Viewpoints）最后展望未来时的感动啊：”Democratic institutions are never done; they are like living tissue, always a-making. It is a strenuous thing, this of living the life of a free people.”（威尔逊的“天真”&理想主义）请一直希望&相信&努力下去——
