我想我永远不会忘记在21岁的时候读了这本书。
回头想想是越来越有味
感觉我这种人大概越过不了刀锋的，这也太难了。毛姆基本是假定智性生活与世俗生活是不可调和的，但其实未必吧。。另外看了下履历，毛姆在一战中参加过谍报工作然后写了《艾申登》，这还真是个有趣小传统，所以奥威尔、格雷厄姆·格林、约翰·勒卡雷通通是他后辈。。
几乎仅分四次就看完了这本书，看得这么快，主要还是包子推荐的缘故。然而并不十分震动，除了伪纪录的小说结构还让我颇有新颖感，人物的塑造十分生动外，其关于宗教与人生的观点对于当今年纪的我而言已经偏于理所当然，小说本身直白近于说教的讨论方式也不是个人喜欢的风格。当然，毛姆的英式英文是优美的。一边看一边认为他复述了我早已定性的思维，却比我能做出的表达好一百倍。
基本上和《月亮和六便士》说的是同一件事，不能自已地寻求自己的人生，比月亮和六便士更丰富地塑造了一些配角，很多和男一LARRY没有特别重要的联系，我想作者是想说“求仁得仁”，但是使整个故事比较散。LARRY被塑造得近乎圣人，并且恰好有固定收入可以支持他loaf，这绝非普通人可以模仿。比较刻意，总体感觉本书说教大于叙事。
